About
I am a software engineer and a classically trained clarinetist, based in the North Carolina Piedmont. Those two things have run in parallel for most of my adult life, and I have stopped treating it as a contradiction; both reward the same patience for detail and the same willingness to practise the unglamorous parts.
Professionally I work on web applications, most often in the Laravel ecosystem. I currently work full-time for Wild Alaskan Company, and also run Ridge Ten Creative, through which I take on a small amount of client work. Musically I hold contracts with three regional orchestras and play in a reed quintet.
I am interested in technology that measurably improves how people live, rather than technology that mostly generates more of itself. That has shaped where I have chosen to work and what I spend evenings on.
Off the clock
- Homebrewing
- All-grain batches on an electric RIMS system, kegged for serving. IPAs, big stouts, seasonal beers - lots of recipes, both borrowed and original.
- Disc golf
- Local leagues and the occasional tournament. Sitting on 16 aces so far.
- Board games
- A wall of shelves, full of board games - and a standing willingness to teach one.
